Whiskey

Whiskey is a type of distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains (which may be malted) are used for different varieties, including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whiskey is typically aged in wooden casks, which are typically made of charred white oak.

There are two spellings used for different varieties for the drink; the spelling “whisky” is used in Scotland, while the spelling “whiskey” is used on the island of Ireland. The choice of spelling in other countries is generally, though not always, dependent on whether their variant of the drink is derived from Scotch or Irish whiskey, so the spelling “whisky” is predominant in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, England and Wales, while the spelling “whiskey” is predominant in the United States
