Ebony tree
Ebony is a dense black wood that is typically sourced from several species in the genus Diospyros. The same name may sometimes refer to other heavy and dark woods of various species. What is typical for ebony is that it sinks in water rather than floating on top. Thanks to its extraordinary texture and high density, ebony looks very smooth when polished, and it is therefore prized as an extraordinary ornamental wood.
